Layers: The main background image is a rock wall with mineral deposits, found while hiking up a dormant volcano on the island of Faial in the Azores. Layered over that is a strange and beautiful succulent, also from the Azores, along with hillside vineyards divided by walls made of volcanic rock (on Pico Island). The final background layer is the lacey pattern of marble in a historic building in Toronto. The trees are from an area which had experienced two forest fires the previous year, near my moms’ place in Nova Scotia. Part of my "Pheonix" series, exploring the idea of growth that comes after disaster.
